No group stages?

A 1992 style format World cup, but Pakistan needs a charismatic effort to win the 2019 Worldcup.

No group stages?
Yes no group stages....there are no groups ...each team will play match against other team and top 4 will get into semi

Pakistan was least fav in 1992 world cup..People was saying same about champion trophy .. Ranking and previous form don't matter...if you adopt condition well and pick a winning momentum and play good on day then you can become champion

I heard on Tv channel as well as read in news paper that substandard performance of Pakistan team made him frustrated and he went to his room afterwords found dead. No debate intended but memory has remained in my mind so shared here to explain current pathetic performance of team though management is to be blamed more rather than team. It is an open fact that foreign high performance coaches perform much better if given a free hand. The same struggle shall be observed after after WC between ex domestic players to get coaching of Pakistan cricket team. If u feel team selection is perfect then it is up to you as I feel pain when figures show that Indian team is going up meanwhile Pak team has question marks.
He had heart problems and other diseases. Coaching jobs all over the world are a stressing job. Performance of the team alone couldn't have given him a heart attack.

We should hope for best at coming WC and may start our discussion after WC.

Wahab Riaz did well in domestic circuit yet ignored meanwhile Junaid Khan facing problems with fitness and pace gets entry that's surprising. Meanwhile to be honest players like Imam Ul Haq and Haris Sohail shall make their individuals records better rather adding something extra for winning big matches. Shadab Khan is sick and if Yasir Shah gets chance in WC it shall be a disaster for both team and Yasir Shah.

Yasir Shah is replacement of shadab just for England series ..Shadab will recover in month time..Wahab riaz has been tried and tested dozen times but he was leaking too many runs in crucial overs ..pace without consistent line and length is useless. He conceded 87/0 from 8.4 overs in champion trophy

Sir current form of Wahab Riaz is best, if someone has bothered to follow current domestic season then he can;t deny the facts. If we are including Hafeez and Junaid on basis of past performances then Wahab definitely deserves the last chance. We should justify selection after WC till then this thread should remain open.

Let see man I don't remember any match winning spell of Wahab when played international matches.. always seen him leaking runs ..Only one spell against shane Watson received praise but even then he did not took wickets and Pakistan lost it badly .. If pace bowlers cannot get you wickets in crucial time then whats the use of such pace and speed

Amir exclusion is all tactic. They want to really influence him to get his jazba back and perform like he used to, otherwise he wouldn't have been included in the England tour. Pak can change the squad without ICC permission before May 23, expect Amir back in place of Hasnain (I really doubt they will pick him given his lack of experience and performance against Australia in the recent ODI series).

M. Rizwan and Usman Khan missing out though was very tough, as much as I like Malik in T20, his ODI form has been terrible as of late (and he has NEVER done good in England). And Abid Ali's inclusion is very ridiculous, the guy just played 2 ODI's, scored a century in one and a duck in the other! I mean he may be a great batsman but to include him in a squad like this before such a big tournament, is a huge gamble IMO. Hafeez just got back into form again but got his hand broken in PSL, so I don't know about him, will have to see him and Malik perform in the England series. Just hope that if these ppl dont perform that Pak have the guts to make huge changes to the squad (i.e bring in Amir, Asif Ali, Usman Khan and M. Rizwan in place of Malik, Hafeez, Hasnain and Abid Ali)

And don't get me started about Yasir Shah, the guy has got to be the luckiest person alive to be included over and over again just because of Shadab unavailability. Yasir cannot play ODi's , it's as simple as that, only good for tests.

Shoaib Malik given 10 days' leave from Pakistan's tour of England

Shoaib Malik sets off for a run PSL

Senior Pakistan all-rounder Shoaib Malik has been given 10 days' leave from his team's pre-World Cup trip to England to deal with "personal issues".

Malik will miss Sunday's T20I and the first ODI against England on May 8. He is expected to rejoin the side before the second ODI on May 11. The exact reason for his unexpected exit has not been revealed by PCB.

"The Pakistan cricket team management has given leave to Shoaib Malik so that he can return home to deal with a personal issue," PCB said. "He is expected to rejoin the team in 10 days' time. "The PCB will not be making any further comments and fully expects all concerned to respect Shoaib's privacy."

Malik's selection for the World Cup raised eyebrows, given that he averages 13.6 with the bat from 23 innings in England. This year's World Cup will be his last as he has confirmed he will retire from ODIs after the tournament.

He made a comeback in Pakistan ODI side in a home series against Zimbabwe in 2015 after being dropped for two straight years after the 2013 Champions Trophy. Since his return he has became an integral part of the side.

His career average in 282 games is 35.12 with a strike rate of 81.75 which, since his return, has risen to 44.24 and 93.16. However, in 10 of his last 11 ODI innings, the 37-year-old Malik has been dismissed between 10 and 31. He has struggled to serve as the launchpad Pakistan want at No. 5.

Pakistan won their tour match against Northamptonshire by eight wickets on Monday.
