Money don't grow on tree, says Manmohan Singh

Building swanky airports for the elite 0.01% is not called building infrastructural............its called wasteful expenditure in a country like India.

Building schools, hospitals, water supply, sewage system, gas pipes, generating electricity, food supply security, improving rail connectivity and comfort, roads and healthcare is called building infrastructure.

Elite don't use these airports free of cost, they pay huge amount for these services and bulk of the tax and revenue to government comes from providing service and taxing these rich. So, your idiotic logic is not convincing.

But tell me why would a private investor invest in school or poverty reduction where he will find no profit.

Basic ROI would mean govt. would earn at least 2 times of what it spent. That should mean GoI has earned 70 Billion $ from these 'huge amounts' paid by these Elites.

Let us look at the revenue generated by these airports .....For Hyderabad its a grand total of 50 million $...assuming 3 airports make 150 million $ a year....it will take them 230 years to make 35 Billion $ :P ....that may be what people mean by planning for the future :woot:

oops ....who's the idiot here :pop:

where you got these hilarious figures  because these airports are in 25-40million passengers per annum category, so you basically claiming max. of $1.5-2 or 80-110 rupees per passenger. :omghaha::rofl::lol: who's the idiot here :pop:

Bangalore International airport's 2011 earning's was around 500 Million USD, and Bangalore has much lesser traffic and cargo compared to Mumbai, Delhi and Chennai.

When you build a bridge over a river you do not expect to get the entire cost of building it from the toll. Every single rupee invested gets multiplied every time the bridge supports any economic activity. So, if people find it easy to do business in a city because of presence of an airport, that should count as a revenue generated by the airport. Not every economic benefit is going to be tangible.

yaar please don't put photos like that of airports. thanks.

If this money to build airports was invested in roads, sewage, infrastructure, who knows, India could have the top 5 living conditions.

Alas,...

These airports look like a shining gem in a sea of darkness.

So Pakistan which still have those ugly looking airports and didn't spend money to upgrade them since independence is now a high living standard country???

Well this thread isnt about Pakistan but Pakistan, even though having average airports, has better infrastructure than India, so....

Lets see if new airports make the list. :D

Lemme explain to all the trolls why these airports are crucial to India in points:
1. Boost the image of India to the incoming tourists
2. Massive boost to hotel industry
3. 5 km sq of area around the airport becomes high value and many new developments like malls, hospitals, residential, business and economic centres etc etc come naturally
4. india is today building 13 metro systems all over so interconnecting them will top class airports makes total sence.
5. India is a growing economy and is expected to have 3rd largest industry and passengers by 2015.
6. Thee buildings boost business confidence and act as a catalyst to growth in the region

Soo keep building them and don't listen to people like Icewolf.
