Military Intelligence plays a vital role during peace time as well as during wartime or in other words its basic function is to collect information relating to the armed forces of a foreign country that is significant to the planning and conduct of another country's military doctrine, policy, and operations.
An agency of the armed forces that procures, analyzes, and uses information of tactical and strategic military value.

Don't forget counterintelligence, denial of information, deception, exploitation etc. Frankly, it is impossible to "discuss" military intelligence without some kind of context. It is involved in everything.

Similiarly, we can talk about a million things related to the ISI, which developed very rapidly during the 1980s into a very strong national intelligence organization. It has its fair share of problems, and like all military agencies, they have done things that were not in the best interest of Pakistan in the long run, but as they say: "girtey hain sheh-sawar hi maidan-e-jang mein. Woh tifl kya gire jo ghutnon ke bal chale".
