PLAAF has not Endorsed JF17 Thunder

JF17 will offer nothing that PLAAF does not have already and in far better technology with the J10 A & J10B

Why would PLAAF introduce a inferior single seater FC1 when the J10 is a single seater with far more advanced FBW built in composites canards range and payload.

Another point how can you replace 2 engined J8 with a single seat Thunder.

Thunder carries half the load over half the distance of the J8.

WON,T HAPPEN. ME THINKS

WELL YOU THINKS WRONG!! I know the ongoing debate even in the chinese circles and websites, but the point is that no nation has unlimited finances to spend on planes which may or may never be used in anger.Somewhere along the line, economic considerations take over. From that point of view alone it makes sense for PLAAF to induct it.Secondly, there are very few if any examples of successful export planes which are not in service with the vendors. From that point of view as well, Thunder makes a sense in limited numbers of 200-300. Thirdly, there are huge numbers of planes required by PLAAF which need to be replaced. J10 and J11 wont replace all the planes so some replacement will have to be found in the interim that can be produced rapidly.
Lastly PLAAF have a contractual obligation to buy 250 planes.

For many years people have asked the question as to will PLAAF induct the JF17 Thunder.

I have found this statement on another forum re PLAAF stance on the Thunder

An unknown but interesting facet of JF-17 is that it is a privately funded project of China's CAC company. The PLAAF neither endorses it, nor is obliged to evaluate it. (I was surprised when I got to know this inspite of following JF-17 since past 4 years). It is similar to the private F-20 project of Northrop, that the USAF rejected.

It appears the whole project was for the PAF only. Funded by Pakistan entirely...

I would guess the PLAAF will stick to inducting J10 as their main single seater fighters and the J11 su30/27 as their twin seaters

Very surprised they are not even remotely interested in testing the plane built by their own Aviation company.

Actually it wouldn't be surprising at all, China always concentrated on the more capable and better fighter, for exactly the same role and just as you pointed out, J10 can do anything the JF 17 can, but better. Reducing the types of fighters for dedicated roles, with multi role fighters, makes more sense in terms of cost-effectiveness. The US showed that with F15/F16, hi lo mix, just like China will with J11/J10. These will be the workhorses and only more specialised types will be added like J-15 for the navy and J-XX and even that is similar to the US (F18 and F22).
IF they go for some JF 17, only in favour of Pakistan, but not because they will offer any operational advantage to PLAAF.

I'll get older posting same thing again and again.
Don't go in circles storm force..

China has more than around 500+ J-7 variants, economically its not feasiable for China to replace all of them with J-10A/B
There are numerous reports of PLAAF to purchase 250 FC-1.
You have to understand PLAAF has multiple projects J-11/J-?/L-15/JH-7/J-10B. They have their priorities.
In mid 1990's PLAAF inducted many new J-7s they've still life left in them.
I will assume PLAAF will start working on FC-1 II 2013 and on wards, when a new engine is ready..

PLAAF is developing capacities of long distance strike. So J-11 variants are highly appreciated. Large orders have already been placed for at least the next three years. As we can learn from Chinese public information 50-75 J-11Bs were produced since 2008 but stockpiled at the SF airfield because problems with quality of WS-10A. The engine problem has been partially solved since January 2010, J-11B will likely reach a number of 100 by the end of this year.

Over 200 JH7As has already been inducted: 5-6 regiments in PLANAF (including 2 regiments of JH-7) and 4 in PLAAF.

The next step is to have more J-11BS, J-10B and J-15.

FC-1 upgrade is under evaluation by PLAAF.

Luftwaffe.

Who said China cant induct replace 500 F7 with J10 & J11.

The chinease are inducting J10s at under $30m each.
J11 at $40m each.

China defense budget is somewhere between $100-$125 billion a year

We are talking about the the most powerful nation on earth bar the USA.

IF COST IS THE ONLY FACTOR i have just blown it away.

All the chinease defense forums are suggesting the Thunder does not meet their needs. They have FAR BETTER options as mentioned above.

Thunder is a low cost meduim fighter for export only

I am the only one thinking the could e a mock-up? Something about the plane does not look real. Am I mad/confussed?

I think the reasoning of what is happening with JF17 and China is simple

China has 10-20 Fighter jet projects going on , some of the items they are working on we don't even know yet

I mean they have option to induct 4-7 different platform planes in their airforce , for us our option is 1-2 planes

So for them their goal is J10 and J11 etc

For them they already have ample supply for all purpose aircrafts

It does not means that JF17 is not capable plane , but just means that China already has planes that can do same role as JF17 does but for us we need JF17 urgently 300-400 units

Pakistan's strategic need for JF17 is more vital as our inventory is older than what Chinese have currently

So We are first updating our old mirages and chinese planes , and then we will get Top of line J10B .....

So from our prespective JF17 is vital , for chinese its another option for their Airforce -

Also from strategic point of view having China on board for JF17 program also enabled us to get approval for Russian engines :P

So thank you China:china:

I am the only one thinking the could e a mock-up? Something about the plane does not look real. Am I mad/confussed?

It's a mock-up built by fans, depicting a modified instake...

Storm Force..China's Defense budget is around 63-70 Billion dollars, your figures are wrong.
All news points to PLAAF actively evaluating FC-1..

^^OMG... you have some serious fans out there! :)

Why would PLAAF introduce a inferior single seater FC1 when the J10 is a single seater with far more advanced FBW built in composites canards range and payload.

What is far more advance FBW?
What do you know about composite part of J-10 and how it helps in superiority?
Why a/c without canards are always inferior?
Where are you getting all those figuers of price tags?

This is too much, how many threads on same topic. Let's discuss machines on their merit not where it is inducted as there are other factors for induction. Grow up.

OK you guys win.

To date the PLAAF have inducted 100+ J10 and are working on J10B

To date they have inducted nil FC1

We will all see in time who is correct !!!!!!!!!!!
