Purpose is publicity, which is important for political parties. Immature is right, it is highly immature.

Burning flags (even one's own) should be a right for everybody, since it comes under freedom of expression. But nobody has or should have a right to force somebody else to burn flags or drive buses over them. All the shiv sainiks who forced the driver to do this should be booked, tried and prosecuted. India has to remain a country where the law is respected, and nobody can force others to do something.

I don't mind if they burn Pakistani flags or even Indian ones. But they should not get away with bullying others to do their bidding. They have been doing this for decades, whether it is bullying couples on Valentine's day or attacking people from other states. Political parties that indulge in such thuggery should be disbarred from contesting elections.

Burning of one's own flag will be the worst insult imaginable....cant think of anything having such unpatriotic symbolism.

If one hates his own country so much, better to move out--as you have done, rather than burn its flag.

If that is the worst insult imaginable, then all the more reason to let people do it, to EXPRESS themselves. It's called freedom of expression. And you know what? It is permitted to burn the US flag in the US. It is not permissible to burn the Indian flag in India.

It is about personal rights. Why should somebody be put in jail for burning a flag? Does burning a flag harm anybody or curtail anybody's rights? NO. Then it is not a crime.

A victimless crime is not a crime.
