US threatens India with sanctions over Iranian Oil

lol its we who really imposed sanctions on them by rejecting their offensive military equipment like F-16,F18E/F,F35,AEGIS,Patriot...and many more...

Just cancel further orders of P8-I and C-13's and C-17 ,then lets see who will sanction who

i hope U.S do this. They have already bad image in india for early sanctions in 98 and most of the defence tech is available in europe or israel and we have access to it.its amazing to see that last year they were endorsing for UNSC permanent seat and now they are talking about sanctions. They dont know that india is very tough nut to crack unlike china which can compromise by threats of economy.
we should limit our relations with U.S.They need slaves not allies or partners.

few days before, I showed Khadi cloths on the Indian freedom fighters like Mr Gandhi, Mr Ghafar Khan, Mr Nehru etc to explain the ‘concept’ behind the Independence India got. A deep sacrifice has made foundation of Indian Independence :pop:. People like Mr Gandhi and his followers could get whatever they wanted in life but they refused everything. now Indian new generation will accept gifts in return of the concept/ foundation of Independence of India? Now new generation of India will follow laws of US/ UK? :guns:
US/ West are now going to get a very special treatment from India. Iran issue will take them to the level they haven’t imagined before. Except Indian laws with following international/ UN's laws to an extent, India will never accept anyone’s else laws, like US’s laws. India is going to exercise all the rights it has which are legal by international laws, no matter how much West cry. India will never compromise with its stand on Iran because US’s laws may force them to do that, not of UN’s laws :sniper:

US hints at sanctions against India over Iran oil import
16th March, 2012

While the Indian government has an excellent record of enforcing United Nations sanctions on Iran, India has objected to unilateral US sanctions.

India not to tax rupee payments for Iranian oil
Reuters / New Delhi Mar 17, 2012, 17:25 IST

India has exempted payment in rupees for oil imports from Iran from hefty local taxes, a move that would help refiners settle some of their oil trade with the sanctions-hit country if the current mechanism through Turkey folds under fresh sanctions.

The finance bill, part of the annual budget presented on Friday, said the exemption in the "national interest" would be implemented from April 1.

Huge business potential awaits Indian companies in Iran: delegation
March 17, 2012

Notwithstanding the threats by U.S. government to impose sanctions against India for its continued engagement with Iran, the high-level business delegation has returned after a week-long trip buoyant about the huge potential that it offers to Indian companies especially in the field of food grains, pharmaceuticals, power and food processing sectors.

Such hysteria is exactly what did it for the F-18 in the MMRCA.

Let alone materializing it, the mere discussion of any such thing will be self-defeating for the US and Israel.

Will the US even think of putting sanctions on a country which is supporting hundreds of thousands of jobs in the US itself?

A country which the US could hope to partner in the future?

A country whose lobby is one of the strongest there in the US, second only to the Israeli lobby?

...and finally, a country whose diaspora is a huge fundraiser for so many American politicians?

Seriously?

Thanks for adding sensibility to the thread's topic, bhai.

China will join US sanctions against india too! And lobby for a no fly zone. Forgive a trillion dollars of US debt if they do regime change on india. Look at how China and USA messed up Japan when we allied in WW2, or broke up USSR in the 80s.

I was learning a few things in this thread until some imbecile butted in. When did "resisting Japan" become "messing up Japan"? And when did China tear down the Berlin wall?

You think you are "war-like" on PDF and that's somehow a path to "respect". Boxers like you are most expendable, whether in Manchu times or under the CCP.

If you live long enough you'll find out soon enough.

Now go on babbling about things you haven't a clue of.

USA is beginning to realize that China is too powerful to mess with because of our 3000 nuclear weapons. But USA only needs to bully weaker countries to exploit them economically. Now it looks like USA has figured out that its more economically cost effective for them to work with powerful China to exploit weak india than to work with weak and unreliable india against way too powerful to mess with China.
Now Chinese diplomats can exploit this rift in the indo US relationship to protect our economic development by sacrificing indias sovereignty!

Sun Tze art of war!

What about others such as your LRMR[P-8I], Attack helos, Transports and other $hit.
That other $hit you mention is not 'front line'. The American stuff you mentioned will comprise just 10% of the force except for the P-8I being inducted from 2014 onwards.

Yeah dumba$$, u r thru' with forming alliances with PK, BD, SL and Russia to bring down India and now u want to form an alliance with uncle Sam to bring down India.

talk of sanctions was made up in the Pakistani media and you folks fell for it.

India, Asian Allies Could Face US Sanctions If Iranian Oil Imports Not Reduced | Fox News

The U.S. could be compelled to sanction one of its closest Asian allies -- India -- unless the country makes significant progress by summer on cutting back on Iranian oil.

U.S. May Sanction India Over Level of Iran-Oil Imports - Bloomberg

India has failed to reduce its purchases of Iranian oil, and if it doesn’t do so, President Barack Obama may be forced to impose sanctions on one of Asia’s most important nations, Obama administration officials said yesterday.

Pakistan has operatives inside the Obama administration? Woo hoo!

However, I don't believe the US will sanction India. India will get an exemption because the US is confident of India's support in the bigger game against China.

The picture is more about saving the US economy than it is about China. The US cannot afford to alienate a country which supports hundreds of thousands of jobs in the US.

China is a far bigger and richer market than India. Yet the US doesn't hesitate to talk tough with China. Long term geopolitical considerations always trump economics.
