Verification Drive of Muslims in Nagaland

Expressing concern over lack of awareness among the public and illegal immigrants on the verification drive being conducted by Public Action Committee (PAC) of Naga CouncilDimapur (NCD),the committee has reiterated that the drive was being conducted to identify permanent muslim settlers of Dimapur vis-¨¤-vis illegal Bangladeshis so that genuine Indian citizens were not victimized for the acts of illegal immigrants. PAC coordinator Joel Nillo Kath stressed on the importance of all muslims in Dimapur district to have themselves registered adding the exercise was purely in public interest as a mechanism where Naga customary rights were invoked to check the menace of rape and anti-social activities committed by aliens having no respect for Naga values and culture.

PAC warned that unless applications for registration were accompanied with ¡°Temporary Resident Certificate¡± to be issuedby respective village or colony GB/chairperson, such applications would be rejected. The PAC has requested all GBs under Dimapur district to extend cooperation towards the exercise. Further, PAC also disclosed that it has decided to ¡°empower¡± GBs of Dimapur district to issue verification forms which would be accepted only at the office of the Naga Council Dimapur. All those to be registered have been asked to obtain forms form the Naga Council office or from their respective colony GBs. The forms would be issued till March 25 after which no plea would be accepted after the last date. PAC said completed forms with necessary document would be received on all working hours from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Further, it has requested all owners/landlordsto sign the ¡°Undertaking¡± failing which tenants would not be registered and for which it would not be responsible for any necessary action. PAC also asserted that the verification drive was an ¡°acid test¡± for all Nagas sheltering immigrants, especially ¡°vested interests who shelter aliens for their financial power and vote bank¡±
. It cautioned that in case of any obstacles raised by individuals/organizations against the verification drive, such act would be construed as ¡°anti-Naga¡± and the matter would be dealt with under Naga customary practices. PAC further appealed to all governmental agencies to ensure care in ¡°documentation¡± so that persons of whose origins were suspect would not be able to claim citizenship based on the such documents issued. It may be recalled that theissue of verification of muslims in Dimapur was spurred on after the February 6 gang rape.

Verification Drive of Muslims in Nagaland | Northeast Today

Totally support this. Illegal migration from Bangladesh has always been a problem for northeast and it is causing a lot of problems to the 7 sister states. Why doesn't the BSF fence and electrify the borders?

indeed..this issue must be controlled before it goes out of control..

You should say 8 sister otherwise you will be no longer north-eastern guy.:D:D

What's the point of the drive if its only in Nagaland, the illegal Bangladeshi's will migrate to a neighboring state for the time being, It should be done in all of NE together to root out the menace.

Atleast Naga people are aware of perils of allowing foreigners to settle on thier land .. states like Mizoram,Nagaland,Arunachal and Manipur are still not so easily accessible to ordinary Indians like you and me, and yet migrants are able to seep into places as if it is their god-promised father land ,despite the fact that only tribals/natives can buy and sell land in these states.Similar laws in Assam and Tripura will greatly reduce the threat of migrants ever getting hold of the place ,though it will not be easy and probably against the constitution also.
The population of Northeast is very small(30 million or something) and it landmass is bigger than BD , if nothing is done in a decade or two we can kiss our land and culture goodbye:cry:, moreover amro bangla bolte konoo ishya nai:P

one question....... Just like we have an open border with Nepal, what are your thoughts on the same with BD?

hope you guys solve your illegal immigration issue. learn from the israelis - they have a very effective (if somewhat inhumane) separation fence.

It will suck with their wet dreams of greater motherland.....
Anyways BD have a huge population density than nepal... There is a threat of extremism also... moreover people i n nepal dont cross over border and settle as migrants....

This totally assumes that Bangladesh's 10% Hindus are not crossing into India. Or 'something' automatically makes them not-foreign.

Both of them are economic migrants ,Nepalese citizen never cut the umbilical chord with their country and identify them as Nepalese and always tend to return to their nation if they have earned enough money.Very few of them actually buy land and stay here forever. They always say "maro nepal rastro sabse ramro" (my country Nepal is the best) or something similar.. Bdeshi on the other hand occupies pasture lands and flood inundated "char" areas and call themselve Indian ,will go extrordinary length to collect ration documents and voter ID card and would swear that have lived on the land for 40 years or atleast since 1969 while the truth is that rest of his family members pole vaulted across the fence only yesterday, so much so that they can`t even understand assamese or any native tribal tongue, infact you will need to speak in broken sylheti dialect to communicate with them. How would one feel if he has to speak to someone claiming to be one of their own, yet you need to speak in a dialect spoken nowhere in a country but in a district from your neighbouring country???
It is not that we don`t have assamese muslims ,we always had a small muslim minority population here in assam, these indigenous muslims as you would expect are not different from other assamese communites. They speak the same language ,celebrate same cultural activities and almost identical to us except for their faith, moreover unlike migrants they live among us not in seperate villages by the river banks like the migrants and they also do not have any political preferences/affiliation like common assamese communities unlike migrants, which for some unknown reason have strong affinity to vote for the party which try to downplay illegal migrants issue (The party is called AUDF or AIDUF) which symbiotically also seem to caters only to districts with majority migrant population.

HUH everyone in Nagaland is outsider , Hindus and Muslims alike, it is just that genuine Indians (irrespective of religion) find it easier to procure the required permit , which migrants ignores and makes out a humanitarian issue if they are driven out, well supported by some selfish and religious but powerful organisation based in (western) Assam citing discrimination on the basis of religion.State governments(of Nagaland and Arunachal) under pressure has to bow down and let them in.(Read user Kesangs comment he is a Arunachali)
