Who are India's good friends in the Future

I think india will have civil war , in next 20 years , and the nation would be split into 4 halfs, north , south and east and west zones
Its a ticking time bomb with all the ethnic stress in its cities and provinces, already the divide is too visible in progress of some economic zone vs other areas.

US would support sourthern regions and may be east , and the areas which are pro communism will be supported by Russians.

Israel , would probbly resolve its differences with Arabs and theer would be a temporary peace , so they will lose interest in India

After the civil war would end after 10-15 years, then 4 zones would probbly rename and join UN ...

China will take Assam areas - during civil war. And Indian nukes would be take up by bestest friend US , in order to protect the world from nukes falling into wrong hands

May I have that crystal ball?
Oops you said "you think"....:alcoholic:

That's What they said about India right after Independence.

Give it 20 years and it will disintegrate. Its been 60 and India IS till here.

And there is no indication that secular India Has failed, Despite its Up and downs.

In our last elections 5 years ago, India gave the world the extraordinary phenomenon of an election being won by an woman political leader, of Italian origin and roman Catholic faith, Sonia Gandhi who then made way for Sikh, Manmohan Singh to be sworn in as Prime Minister by a Muslim President Abdul Kalam, In a country 81% Hindu

stop day dreaming buddy... india is not going to disintegrate .....
instead the countries plotting for it are getting broken up.....
feel free to disagree:cheers:

I now know why many Indians are so arrogant about Indian capability vs others here.

Its to keep India together. India is keep together by the hope of being the most powerful country on earth. If this dream is no more, India will disintegrate. That is why the Indian gov and media always talk about Indian invincibility so it can get the population focus on the better tomorrow. Without this, the majority of Indians, which are either backward castes, schedule castes or schedule tribes will see no need to support "India" as the loyalty to its community will be a stronger ties. In this scenario, India would revert back to its princely states. India as a nation will still might be together, but it will be a far looser union as community ties trump national identity.

u r the most arrogant one around....and u say others are arrogant..funny indeed...:azn:

u r the most arrogant one around....and u say others are arrogant..funny indeed...:azn:

Lets come up with something reasonable to the question asked above. None of us is at 4th grade and such answers are not even fancy.

Regarding India's friends, I will name 3 countries at most.

1- Israel
2- USA/England
3- Russia

The closer India gets to USA, the distant it will get from Russia. Russia has economic reasons to keep India closer but when India will be purchasing more of its equipment from USA, the Indian buddy list will get down to first two.

Regarding Myanmar and Bhutan, If you are happy to rely on them for the defense and security, you are welcome my friend.

After going through previous posts...I think most have posted countries with a specific viewpoint, which they would like to give more importance to!! .eg. Economic growth, External Security, Internal Security, Modernization, Historic events, Culture, Regional etc..

So, instead of going by the general norm I will post top 5 alliances important for India in particular sector and then generalize....

Economic Growth/Modernization
Strong Economy is the most vital part of development and global influence for any sovereign country, more so for a developing one like India..
Alliances
1. US- Strongest Economy currently,Leader in Modern Technologies, Strong currency which is globally accepted, Market Leader, Trade relations etc..
2.Arab Countries -Since India imports most of its petroleum demands these countries are very important..oil is bread and butter for infrastructure and companies/production units,etc...

3. China- Second biggest Economy(to climb to one but has a few decades atleast to reach it), high proportion of trade with India, developing country just like India so many similar opportunities

4.EU - United they stand, divided they fall...,big market, modern technology, good trade relations, EURO is also very strong currency...

5. RUSSIA-Although subdued after USSR collapse still remains one of the biggest economies, unexploited business relations can now be taken care of, second largest oil producer and has lots of minerals

Security(Internal as well as External)
India has been plagued by this issue since independence so very vital..
Alliances..

1. Russia-Major supplier for decades, no restrictions on sale of military equipment, quality may be an issue but sometimes u hv to give in to quantity(also India can find other sources to limited issues where it finds fit without raising an objection), takes care of one side of a known adversary(china) which is vary of its future intentions, partnership projects

2.Israel for a decade now has been providing top military equipment that was not possible from Russia, common security interest as far as Pakistan, partnership projects

3. Afghanistan A country if cleared of taliban and al-qaida will surely form a military alliance with India to keep Pakistan at bay, in effect gives head-ache to another adversary and its resources get split..

4.US country which can provide modern technology/equipment, intelligence, tactics, strong alliance against china, NATO support if required..but isn't completely in a state on mind to do so at present...

5.Bangladesh Very important to India's internal security specially for north-east and against LeT & other terrorist organization .. has shown interest in developing such alliance by acting against ULFA and Let in recent days..

History/Culture/Regional Importance

People of India give tremendous importance to these factors..
Alliances..

1. Russia decades of friendship, (a friend in need a friend indeed)1971, nuclear reactors/fuel supply, NSG, UN permanent seat, BRIC alliance

2.US- oldest democracy, presence of many Indian origin people, modern generation likes to follow suite, big regional influence as a global power specially w.r.t Pakistan,Afghanistan, arab and central asian countries..

3. UK Although a small country they ruled us and hv left a legacy, many concepts adopted from them in govt. functioning, considerable clout in south-asian politics

4. Australia a country with huge potentials, can be a regional partner, can supply nuclear fuel, strong diaspora for Indian students(although a bit affected due to racist incidents)

5. Iran & Tajkistan regionally they are gateway for India to central asia...good relations historically, common interest w.r.t afghanistan

Overall

1. Russia
2. US
3. UK(along with a few other countries like Germany, France, etc)
4. Arab countries
5. China
6. Israel
7. Afghanistan
8.Bangladesh
9. Iran
10. Australia and Oman(although not discussed above)

Feel free to disagree ..

K k , guys did not mean to come out to directly , I know we are all passionate about our nations , but I am just looking up what the news and projections ares for India

Its not to offend anyone , but I am just reading indian sources of news

Exhibit 1: Gujrat , a ticking timebomb waiting for another flare up
Prof. Jayanti Patel qoutes , prominent Indian Professor , on Gujrat

The violent clashes between the two communities during these riots led to the segregation of Hindu and Muslim localities. This segregation affected the younger generation as they had no live social contacts with each other, they studied in different schools and the link of friendship or communication or understanding each other’s feelings, became very tenuous

There is a causal link between violence and deprivation. Any form of deprivation leads to frustration which in turn produces anger responsible for aggression or an act of violence. Sense of deprivation is a personal perception. When a gap between expectation and achievement develops due to change in economic, social and political situations or psychological reasons, deprivation sets in at individual and/or group levels.

Exhibit 2: South Indian Crisis on formation of a new state

Hundreds of armed police patrolled the southern state of Andhra Pradesh after protesters burned dozens of vehicles overnight. Advocates of the new state staged a general strike Thursday that paralyzed much of the region

The announcement on Telangana prompted ethnic minorities and activists seeking states of their own to begin pressing longtime grievances anew, and India found itself confronting calls for a wholesale redrawing of the map in the diverse nation of 1.2 billion

Exhibit 3: Assam

Assam's problems began as soon as that self styled superintellectual Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru chose to divide a very large province into a patch work of seven portions. NEFA now christened as Arunachal Pradesh was centrally administered zone inacessible to the common Assamese.

The state of Assam has been badly affected by armed insurgency over the last one and a half decades with various insurgent groups like the ULFA, NDFB, DHD, UPDS, NSCN waging a low intensity war against the lawfully established Government.
Not one but 5 groups

5 Al Kaiday groups in India - now that is news we don't hear , on main stream do we
nor the GOP know they just gave the nuclear technology thinking , its all bed of roses in India

Exhibit 4 Kashmir:
We all know that under the UN mandate the UN will have elections agreedupon by both india and pakistan in 1947 its a very simple situation juts need indians to cooperate

Exhibit 5: Riots by Sikhs against Indian gov in 2009
Killing of Sikh Leader Sets Off Riots in India

NEW DELHI — Riots erupted across the Punjab region of India on Monday in response to the killing of a leader of a Sikh sect who died after an attack on a temple in Vienna on Sunday.

NEW DELHI — Riots erupted across the Punjab region of India on Monday in response to the killing of a leader of a Sikh sect who died after an attack on a temple in Vienna on Sunday.

One of the leaders, Guru Sant Rama Nand, died of his wounds, and the other, Sant Niranjan Dass, was in stable condition following surgery, Mr. Heer said.

The two men were the leaders of the Ravidass sect, Sikhs who revere a saint of the same name believed to have been born in the 15th century to a family of leather workers, considered “untouchables,” or outcastes, and known today as Dalits.

In principle, Sikhism rejects caste divisions; one of its main tenets is the equality of all believers. But the existence of caste-based sects within Sikhism illustrates how tenacious divisions that have existed for millennia can be.

Though vastly diminished, discrimination against Dalits remains a force in everyday life among Sikhs in the countryside, said Surinder Jodhka, a sociologist at the Jawaharlal Nehru University in Delhi.

The goal of the Khalistan movement is to create a Sikh homeland, often called Khālistān (Punjabi: ਖ਼ਾਲਿਸਤਾਨ "The Land of the Pure"), in the Punjab region of India. Harking back to the 18th century Sikh Empire, the envisioned Sikh state would include all Punjabi-speaking areas, viz. Indian Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and some other Punjabi speaking parts of states like Gujarat and Rajasthan.

The movement reached its zenith in 1970s and 1980s. In 2009, it is widely seen as a smaller scale movement. There are claims of funding from other nations to attract young people into militant groups, who are looking to get an independent Sikh homeland through donations from foreign Sikh supporters

Now looking at the map of India you can see the trouble spots

North

East - West

South

In between there are , quite a few million mulims also not happy too :coffee:

So that is not a good situation considering the Muslims are the one west fears would take nukes , with all these movements going on in India , its kinda not very safe place

And lastly lets not forget Dalit Nationals , who don't get education or any social benefit

Kai Ryssdal: India's month-long national election begins tomorrow. And all eyes will be on a politician named Mayawati. She's making moves to become the country's next prime minister. Which is a big deal because she's a Dalit. That's what people in the lowest Hindu social castes call themselves; they used to be called "untouchables." Mayawati's rise is a hopeful sign for Dalits. But as Marketplace's Rico Gagliano reports, most people of that social level still find themselves struggling for economic equality

What if the social , development efforts do not work for Dalits and they also resort to their own sepratist movement - after all didn't we got independence from British based on principles of freedom , why would anyone who is casted as Dalit live their lives , with no benefits or schooling and discrimination at jobs etc ... point to note

These are very real and serious issues that India of tomorrow face , it still faces them now , but for now its putting its , dirty laundy under the carpet but sonner or later there will be no room for any laundry under the carpet -

Pakistah is only dealing with 1 issue now , and that is Taliban but India will be facing multiple issues VERY soon and lets not forget big brother USA will be there to clean up the nukes when it feels things are not going the right away that is why they are there as your friend

2008 attacks on North Indians in Maharashtra

The 2008 attacks on North Indians in Maharashtra began on February 3, 2008 after violent clashes between workers of two political parties—Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) and Samajwadi Party (SP)—at Dadar in Mumbai, capital of the Indian state of Maharashtra. The clashes took place when workers of MNS, a splinter faction formed out of the Shiv Sena (a major political party of Maharashtra), tried to attack workers of SP, the regional party based in Uttar Pradesh, who were proceeding to attend a rally organised by the United National Progressive Alliance (UNPA).[1] Defending his party’s stand, MNS chief Raj Thackeray explained that the attack was a reaction to the "provocative and unnecessary show of strength" and "uncontrolled political and cultural dadagiri (bullying) of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar migrants and their leaders".[2]

I think not long ago one MP took oat in Hindi and he was beaten up by Marathi speaking politicians in broad day light -

Aniti Christian Forces in India
The rise of anti-Christian violence has been directly linked to the ascendancy of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Human Rights Watch pins the responsibility for much of the violence on the Sangh Parivar; an umbrella group for the three principal Hindu Nationalist organizations, Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Bajrang Dal, and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh.HRW also points to the involvement of the Sangh Parivar, as well as the local media, for promoting anti-Christian propaganda in the BJP controlled state of Gujarat. In addition to Gujarat, anti-Christian violence has been the most prevalent in the states of Orissa, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and New Delhi, all of which have had administrations lead by the BJP.

So its a wide spread - social issue

Sometimes - I feel may be India needs Pakistan , just to refocus all its internal groups
so they would feel Indian , and forget their internal issues even for brief moment or months - its strange but ... anyways , I found it facinating such dynamics exist in indian democracy and some how its running & they got the nuclear technology given to them too ... with so many ... violent groups operating locally including gov parties

These are serious issus -India will face challenges far greater then what Pakistan or China can every present it -

i dont know abt indis

1)geographical borders(peaceful)

So does India,
despite border issue, its been decades since the last time Indian and Chinese troops fired at one another.

No deaths, or cross border firing, Peaceful enough

2)china and pakistan are old silk raod countries.

So are China and India

3)china and pakistan or atleast chinese ughur province share cultural, historical, religious backgrounds.

I doubt that.

4)china and pakistans friendship is not of state with state but people with people basis.thats why we respect ech other.

So people continue to tell me.

Especially since the People of China have so much say in a communist Government.:disagree:

5)china and pakistan dont have any expentionist plans in asia.

But key point is you had Expansionist plans.

However

Pak is in no postion to expand today.

China is to responsible to expand.

6)china and pakistan show true friendship in peace and difficult times.

well i suppose that's true.
One thing china always does is show solidarity to its Allies.

well said BIRADAR .... uparwala tumhe dher saari khusiyan ata farmaye....

So would India become a muslim country soon and be absorbed by Pakistan:pakistan:

Yes. It is like Taiwan absorbing China. I think it clears all your doubts.

In this world there are no permanent friends or enemies only permanent interest.

Culturally India is close to Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka so however we may dislike some level of engagement will be always there with all this countries.

China and India have lot to gain if they stand together the most recent example will be the recent climate summit. This relation will always be clouded in mistrust as both countries will aim for the same pie and China backing Pakistan so we will end up competing and cooperating on a case to case basis.

India has always remained a non aligned country and will maintain equidistance from Russia and USA and at the same time engage will all leading nations of the world. In terms of defense India will move closer to countries that offer TOT and joint development and in this scenario Russia and Israel are current favorites.

Pakistan and India will benefit big time in terms of trade and commerce if they can shake of Kashmir from their back. It will require strong and bold leadership from both sides to do this.

Finally all those having orgasms at the thought of India breaking up I want to dampen their excitement by saying that this not going to happen. We do have lot of contradictions but it is not state sponsored and all this problems have been there for last 60 years when we were not so well of and now when we are doing much better this is no issue. Yes there are issues like poverty and illiteracy which have to be tackled on war footing. Those who have these wet dreams of India disintegrating have never seen well oiled government institutions working so I don’t blame them.

To add, Taiwan, Thailand, indonesia, malaysia, south africa and couple of african countries, host of latin american countries , Many CIS countries.

India wants to be friend with everyone.[/QUI

I have to be angry for it .Taiwan is not a country ,Houw could you list it with other countries? I hope you could repect other independent country.:angry::angry:
