Wow what a comparison? Comparing M2 moterway with city roads I guess? Have these guys seen Mumbai Pune expressway? It is comparable to Highways in USA forget Asia itself. Please do compare with current data not old data. Also I am still waiting for your reply on how economic data was collected for India? When more than 50% people do not report correct earnings to either Government or any other agency. I asked this question yesterday and still waiting for reply.

i agreed, people in india donot reveal their exact income. i was in bihar and went to so many villages. i talked to few villagers about the poverty, most of the people told me one thing that in bihar people have enough money but cannot showoff because they afraid that tthey may get kidnap or somebody loot them.

what rubbish to say that they are biased...u are also a democracy. did u forget?? lol
now talk about in absolute term

india pakistan

66.20 66.88.......education

51.71 49.29........health

47.44 49.48.........quality of life

49.99 41.53.........economic dynamism

63.13 28.19.........political environment

now if you carefully the difference in first three is not that significant..more or less both are at the same level. but in later two there is significant difference.
so you cannot say that pakistan is way ahead of us. they are little better at quality of life front, but at economic and political front they suck. economic front is the gateway of growth at all front.

Pakistan is ahead in education and quality of life.

Clearly, Pakistan economy is stagnant since 2008. But it's only a snapshot, not a trend. As I said earlier, Pakistan's economic CAGR has been faster than India's over several decades.

In terms of politics, it is very subjective this is where the Newsweek bias is the greatest.

India's politics is dominated by criminals and corrupt politicians as much as Pakistan's. Over a third of Indian MPs have either been accused, or convicted of serious crimes including murder and rape, and their convictions are on appeal in India's extremely slow-moving and corrupt justice system.

yay ... cheers for Pakistan! Looks like people in Pakistan are more comfortable with military rule than elected representatives. Corruption is part of the system either it is under military rule or elected representatives.

We know that India needs to improve a lot ... and in fact it is improving day by day with RTE, RTI, NREGA, building infrastructure and lots and lots of other programs aimed at development.

India is definitely moving forward ... on all dimensions of development. :D

do you think the difference is so significant?? anybody would laugh on you. it is just marginal. this is the recent ranking which is depend upon the today's standing , which again depend on the past trends not on a single day standing. don't twist the facts as per your liking by calling them biased. why are you so selective then, reject the whole standing. this shows how biased you are. as far as corruption goes, you know how is government and judiciary system. not a single sentence against any terrorist after having so many attacks.

Good :tup:

Yes under militray rule the economy was always good for Pakistan,but as of today or post recession period its stagnant.thats all it matter.

Can't accept anything negative can you?

Despite all that, the situation has never gone volatile except for once when for the only time so far a state of emergency was declared.
About Pakistan?I credit the fact that, you can fill that part.

Economy and politics are not static...they are constantly changing yearly.

The creation of the middle class, however, is a much longer term trend.

@RiazHaq

How pathetic is ur post let me expose you.

When u talk about India u takes "largest number of poor"

But when you talk about pakistan u says "pakistan has more % of people in middle class then India"

You don't say that India has more number of middle class because u feel hot coals and says that its because of bigger population.

It shows u twists all the facts to suit ur argument just to feel good in 20-22 hrs. of power cuts. Mind it no country with 20-22 hrs. of power cuts can have bigger middle class.

For a country like Pakistan,despite the challenges they face like large refugee population ,internal conflicts etc,it certainly is.So lets give them credit where they deserve so.

It is because the situation has so far "never gone volatile " that India has such deep poverty and hunger and absence of social justice.

The best hope for the poor in India does not lie in stability, but in a dramatic change to alleviate their serious deprivations.

Maybe the Maoists will eventually help change it for the better for India's poor.

take your lessons first, all the future decision and previous decision depend on the economic and political scenario. where do you get fund for development without having a good economy.

buddy dont we have our share of problems ?? having a closed economy before 1991, maoist problem, illiteracy problem, corruption problem, population problem, terrorism ?? do you think pakistanis are working for free??

Percentage is more important than numbers.

It shows u twists all the facts to suit ur argument just to feel good in
Even if so that most of his blog article lay an emphasis on maligning India and aided with cherry picking ,we should appreciate the fact atleast his articles are not of the same quality as rupeenews Pakistan patriot etc.

You want percentages? Here you go:

OPHI 2010 country briefings on India and Pakistan contain the following comparisons of multi-dimensional (MPI) and income poverty figures:

India
MPI= 55%,Under$1.25=42%,Under$2=76%,India_BPL=29%

Pakistan
MPI=51%,Under$1.25=23%,Under$2=60%,Pakistan_BPL=33%

Lesotho MPI=48%,Under$1.25=43%,Under$2=62%,Lesotho_BPL=68%

China
MPI=12%,Under$1.25=16%,Under$2=36%,China_BPL=3%

Among other South Asian nations, MPI index measures poverty in Bangladesh at 58 per cent and 65 per cent in Nepal.

While OPHI's MPI is a significant improvement over the simplistic income level criterion for assessing poverty, it appears that the MPI index gives nearly three quarters of the weight to child mortality and school enrollment, and just over a quarter of the weight to a combination of critical factors such as access to electricity, sanitation and clean drinking water which are essential for proper learning environment, increased human productivity and healthy living.

Haq's Musings: New Index Finds Indians Poorer Than Africans and Pakistanis

Here are the details of income levels in India, Pakistan and China as reported by ADB:

Daily Income......$2-$4.......$4-$10........$10-$20.....Over $20

India...............20.45%......4.15%........0.45%........0.10%

Pakistan............32.94%......6.56%........0.62%........0.15%

China ..............33.97%......25.17%.......3.54%........0.68%

As to the power cuts, all developing nations, including India, have this phenomenon. After getting worse, the power situation has improved recently in Pakistan. Such problems affect the growth and size of the middle class only over decades..not weeks or months.

how the supply of power has improved, after having devastating floods?? i have read that few power plants are shut off because of floods. in our villages, people get atleast 12 hr of electricity, not like pakistan where cities get less than this.
