Bangladesh accuses Pakistan of falsification about exhibition at UN on genocide

The foreign ministry has said Pakistan falsified about Bangladesh’s exhibition at the United Nations on the genocide during the 1971 Liberation War.

The ministry in a statement on Thursday said the Bangladesh mission at the UN organised the exhibition at the global body's headquarters in New York with its full support and following all its rules to mark National Genocide Day.

Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen visited the three-day exhibition along with foreign ambassadors and diplomats, expatriate Bangladeshis and freedom fighters on Mar 29.

On Apr 3, the Pakistani media published reports quoting a foreign ministry spokesperson as saying: “When pointed out by the Permanent Mission of Pakistan to the UN, the exhibition was taken down immediately due to its misrepresentation of history and non-compliance with relevant UN rules. We appreciate the swift action taken by the United Nations in this regard."

The Bangladesh foreign ministry said the claim that the exhibition was “taken down immediately due to its misrepresentation of history and non-compliance with relevant UN rules” was “untrue and imaginary”.

The Pakistani forces swooped down on unarmed Bengalis on Mar 25 night in 1971 in a brutal attempt to crush their struggle for freedom.

Codenamed ‘Operation Searchlight’, it carried out genocide in the early hours of that night in Dhaka. At least 7,000 Bengali were killed only in the capital.

Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman declared independence before being arrested by the Pakistani forces the same night.

Bengalis retaliated with spectacular resistance and fought for nine months of the Liberation War to snatch the victory on Dec 16 when the occupation army surrendered to the allied forces backed by India.

Bangladesh has been demanding that the United Nations declare the day as the World Genocide Day as a mark of protest against the genocides carried out around the globe.

The United Nations, however, in September 2015, recognised Dec 9 as International Day of Commemoration and Dignity of the Victims of the Crime of Genocide and the Prevention of this Crime.

Dec 9 is the anniversary of the adoption of the 1948 Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide or the ‘Genocide Convention’.

Bangladesh’s Parliament in 2017 passed a motion declaring Mar 25 as National Genocide Day. Mar 26 is Bangladesh’s Independence Day.

In 2021 and 2022, US-based organisations Genocide Watch and Lemkin Institute for Genocide Prevention recognised the brutal slaughter of Bangladeshis by the Pakistani occupation forces in 1971 as genocide.

Without mentioning the genocide, the Pakistan foreign ministry spokesperon said: “We believe that the issues related to the events of 1971 were resolved through an agreement concluded by the then leadership of Pakistan and Bangladesh in 1974. Pakistan reaffirms its sincere desire for close and fraternal relations with the people of Bangladesh.”

In response, the Bangladesh foreign ministry said the exhibition would play a role in making the UN member states aware of the 1971 genocide.

“The Bangladesh mission expresses its sincere gratitude to the Liberation War Museum in Dhaka and the UN headquarters in New York for their support in organising the historic event.”

“The foreign ministry’s efforts to get international recognition of the 1971 genocide will continue.”

That's an incredibly bad take even for Bangladesh. Unarmed? I think not.

I think the current Bangladesh regime is going to have to accept some hard truths before this genocide gets any international recognition like Rwanda, Cambodia, or the Holocaust.

An impartial look at the events will uncover myths that the Awami League would rather not have uncovered.

Bengali Muslims killed Hindus and pinned the blame on Pakistani Army.

Bhrahmans and apparently even Bhuddists in the Chitagong area if I'm not mistaken. Hopefully these fascists will pay for their lies if they don't choose to shut up altogether.

Bengali Muslims are indeed very cunning.

But what I don't understand is why the Hindu Government of India is supporting these Bengali Razakars, who love to slaughter their Hindu minority.

Because "Hindu" is not a religion. It's a term for various religions. Technically we Pakistanis being people of the Indus are the actual Hindus.

But the targeting of Bengali Brahmans and Buddhists was blamed on Pakistani troops. That is why Sharmila Bose probably wrote her book refuting those assertions.

She is an ethnic Bengali Brahman from India and she probably wanted to assign the blame where it belongs so her fellow Bengali Brahmans in East Bengal get some form of justice.

It probably wasn't done out of sympathy for Pakistan.

I agree with you.

But Sharmila Tagore loved Pak Pathan men. She married Saif Ali Khan's father.

All the more reason for her sympathies. Good thing she's not the only Bengali who exposes the Bangladeshi government's propaganda.

She was repulsed by dark-skinned Bengali Muslims who were Dalit and Adivasi converts.

Bengali Muslims hate Bengali Hindus for this very reason. The thought of raping fair-skinned Bengali Brahmans turns these dalit Bengali Muslims on.

hindus dressed up as pak army commited crimes and pak army git framed. plus were are the pak armies left over rape babies.

Tum dono pehle decide karo kis ko blame karna hai.
Bengali Muslims? Or Hindus dressed as Pak Army?

Famous linguists should take a unified stance on the definition of the word “genocide”.

There was a time when the govt of Begum Zia proposed to count the number of all deaths by doing a census all over the country.

However, Hasina Bibi of the BAL party vehemently objected by claiming that only Razakar would not believe what Mujib claimed in London.

Mujib was told to claim 3 Lakh by his people in London and he came up with 3 million, instead. Even 3 lakh was too many.

No one really believed his little story although all believed in the killing by PA.

Anyway, Hasina Bibi has the mandate to claim 30 million. But, she should claim so with DNA test results of all bodies she finds.

Bloody idiot Hasina Bibi!!

Genocide is not about body count, it’s about intent. Genocide is the intent to wipe out every member of one or multiple ethnic groups, and then acting upon it. This is where Bangladeshis elites want but will never get a recognition from outside world as Pakistan was not indulging in this mass extinction of you east Pakistanis
