ISLAMABAD: Minister for Port and Shipping Babar Khan Ghauri Tuesday said that at least 582 acres of Gwadar Port are in possession of Pakistan Navy, warning if the land is not returned, the port may be closed.

Minister for Ports and Shipping Babar Khan Ghouri told the House that three berths of Gwadar Port are functioning and presently a large number of trucks are transporting urea and wheat from Gwadar to up country.

During the Question Hour, Babar said Singapore Port Authority has not been given the possession of even one acre of the land.

However, Senator Abdul Malik said Pakistan Navy did not occupy the land of Gwadar Port, adding he wondered why the government gave its land to Singapore Port Authority on cheap prices.

Babar agreed that trucks have first to go to Karachi before proceeding to their destinations up country because of absence of direct linkages between Gwadar and other parts of the country.

He said Pakistan Railways and National Highway Authority have been asked to expedite work on creation of rail and road linkages to ensure optimum utilization of the Gwadar Port facilities.

Minister for Education Mir Hazar Khan Bajarani told the House during question hour that 507 Madaris have been registered under the Madrassa Reforms Project.

He said in addition to their own prescribed religious subjects, English, Maths, General Science and Pakistan Studies from primary to secondary level and English, Economics, Pakistan Studies and Computer Science at higher secondary level have been prescribed under the project.

To a question he said unless given extension, the project would end by June next year.

Minister for Social Welfare and Special Education informed the House that the Ministry is currently updating the data related to implementation of two percent quota reserved for disabled persons in Ministries and Divisions.

The data shows that there is a shortfall of zero point seven eight percent in observance of the disability quota in the overall Ministries and Divisions.

The Minister said all Ministries and provincial governments are being pursued to strictly implement the policy regarding two percent quota.

The FPSC has allowed permission to the disabled persons to compete for CSS examination in Commerce and trade; Pakistan Audit and Accounts Service; information and postal groups.
