sir pshamim
will you kindly tell me why F-18s are in the MRCA race for IAF when not even one has been bought by United States Air Force. In fact they were rejected by both the USAF and Pakistan in favor of F-16s which many Indians seem to discard because Pakistan knows every inch of it and has been flying them for last 30 years.. If F-18s were in competition for Indian Navy, it would have made a lot of sense but if they are are purchased for IAF, it will be a great favor to PAF.

Engines from USA, even Kaveri's genes come from a french engines
Cobham of UK to provide retractable probe
Elta or Eads to develop the radar for LCA
If you research, you will find a lot more tenders for systems for use in LCA are being floated.
Indians friends have given a new meaning to word "Indiginous" Any thing foreign developed, produced but sold to India is now called indeginous.

Jf-17 will be eaten alive by SU-30MK1 but they do not mention Thunder eaten alive by Tejas, Mirage-2000 or Mig-29. Now we know where the competition lies thanks to our friens across the border.

I am sure RD-93 will be ultimately replaced. If you compare the new pictures of incoming JF-17s 113 % 114 with the older ones, you may notice a bulge in the belly just under the exchausr cone. Changes have definitely been made. Notice the intake looks smaller than before.

My information points to Egyptian acquisition of JF-17 in triple digits and not just for 30-40 copies. This explains why Egypt wants an assembly line. Also, Egypt and Pakistan are negotiating this project.
Avionics issue is under review and it may have an effect on the timimg of the project.

Please do not despair. KLJ-10 will be replacing the KLJ-7 in the first batch.
Initially, it was thought that Thunder would only use the Chinese BVRAAM and that made sense. . But then PAF began to think using American Aim-120 as an option which does not mate with KLJ-10. PAF hopes that US will allow AIM-120 by sharing codes with Western manufacturers of radars which it may not do with Chinese.

PAF has 4 Test engineers-two British certified and 2 Certified in China. These poor chaps are overwhelmed with the load. Every one of them is a F-16 pilot. This helps in not only testing the new aircraft but also points to any deficiency when compared to F-16 as well.

Let us hope that we see a 2 seater versionof Thunder next year. China was not interested in a 2 seat FC-1 but Pakistan is paying the R&D costs to develop the 2 seater jf-17.

PAF has already decided to develop the 2 seat Thunder and work is underway. Pakistan wants to use this version not only for training purpose but also as a dedicated attack version. Hopefully we should start hearing more in 2011

South Africa and Brazil are cooperating in the development of "A" darter missile which is undergoing tests. Hopefully, the production will start in 2013 and Pakistan is the first country to show interest. It has shown its willingness to buy at least 500 to 1000 of this missile for $450,000 each. This news has already been published before and not a secret.

Yes. We got some MAA-1A last August and September. B version still in testing but contracts may have been signed. India is not very happy and it thinks because of Brazil and India being part of BRIC Brazil should not support Pakistan.

However, theremay have been an agreemnt in place according to which Pakistan and Brazil, probably Mectron will share the development costs 50:50. I am not sure if the agreement was for MAR-1 or MAA-1B. Mectron is reported to have added 60 more engineers after the agreement so it is most likely to benefit from this agreement

Ok Guys, this is a good initiative.

But few things would be necessary to keep in mind so that this thread doesn't gets derailed nor this becomes another typical JF-17 thread.

Whatever is to be posted should be links to the posts in other JF-17 related threads that you guys deem useful, informative, knowledgable and worth to be remembered.

So just links should be choice #01, if there are no links, even if you copy and paste something, like a piece of information by some member, do give the source.

There would be NO discussion here, just links and quotes with sources.

Have a good informative time.

Pakistan to build radar for JF-17 'Thunder' fighter
By Farhan Bokhari
12/24/2010

The chief of staff of the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) has told Jane's that Pakistan has built its first facility to manufacture radars for fighter aircraft.

Air Chief Marshal Rao Qamar Suleman said the indigenously produced radar, built with China's assistance at the Pakistan Aeronautical Complex (PAC), in Kamra, north of Islamabad, would equip the JF-17 'Thunder' fighter aircraft jointly produced by the two countries.

"This is a major step forward. This will be the first such [radar manufacturing] facility in Pakistan," ACM Suleman said in an interview on 21 December at PAF headquarters in Islamabad. He confirmed that the radar would be fitted on the JF-17, which, along with US-supplied F-16 Fighting Falcons, is set to be the PAF's front-line combat aircraft.

Previous reports suggest that the radar to be manufactured will be the Chinese-built CETC/NRIET KLJ-7 radar set. At the 2010 Farnborough Air Show, at which two JF-17s made their debut in the West, Jane's reported that the KLJ-7 had received full marks from the JF-17's designers at PAC.

A PAC programme officer told Jane's : "I have flown with this radar and with other models that we have looked at fitting to this aircraft, such as the Thales RC400, and the Chinese radar is every bit as capable as its contemporary analogs."
