Star Trek 3 will film in Dubai in October
The third instalment of the sci-fi franchise is set to release in July 2016

Astronomically cool news has been confirmed: Star Trek 3 is invading our neck of the woods. Or, er, our neck of the galaxy?

Last month, Skydance Production CEO and founder David Ellison told the press that he will be filming the third instalment of the sci-fi franchise in Dubai and Vancouver. Now, Dubai Film and TV Commission (DFTC) are confirming the geeky glee: Filming of the project is due to kick off as soon as October in the UAE.

Issam Kazim, CEO of Dubai Corporation for Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM), highlighted the importance of this influx of Hollywood movies that are filming in the region, as they cement Dubai as a “world-class tourist destination”.

“The city’s world-renowned architecture, diverse landscapes and attractions are proving increasingly attractive to filmmakers and we are seeing Dubai gain a reputation as a world-class filming location,” he said.

DTCM, DFTC, the Dubai Media Office and the Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF) will all be involved.

Jamal Al Sharif, chairman of DFTC and managing director of Dubai Studio City, added that the production would “provide a great opportunity for local talent to acquire new skills, and gain first-hand insight into the techniques and processes required for a film of this size.”

Star Trek 3 is set to release in the US and the UAE in July 2016.

I love it when they say cute stuff like this.

Diverse landscapes? It's all desert.
Local talent acquiring skills? At the cost of foreign workforce.

And what does Islam have to do with liking or disliking Star Trek and Star Wars?
