Two Iranian fighters killed in Syria: Iranian agencies| Reuters
Two members of a unit of Iran's elite Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) have been killed in Syria, including an ex-bodyguard for Iran's former president, Iranian media reported on Friday.

"Today, two of IRGC's Ansar forces were martyred in Syria. Reports of the martyrdom of 15 people are wrong," Iran's Tasnim news agency quoted Ramezan Sharif, a spokesman for the IRGC, as saying.

"Abdollah Bagheri Niaraki and Karimi were martyred in Syria while protecting a religious site near Aleppo."

The spokesman gave no first name for Karimi.

Niaraki, who for a while was the bodyguard of former hardline president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, was killed on Thursday, the semi-official Fars news agency reported.

Iran is the main regional ally of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and has provided military and economic support during Syria's four-year-old civil war.

Tehran says it has been offering "military advice" to the Syrian army in its fight against Islamic State militants and other rebel groups, and that it has sent fighters only to defend Shi'ite shrines.

Sources told Reuters this month that hundreds of troops had arrived since late September to take part in a major ground offensive planned in west and northwest Syria, in the biggest deployment of Iranian forces yet.

Sharif said the presence of the IRGC "has increased since the recent field developments in Syria", but gave no further details.

Four Iranian commanders were killed this month fighting in Syria, and an IRGC commander was killed in June.

@500
This is rare, when Iranians dies. Usually Iranians do not take part in fights directly, they send Pakistani, Iraq and Afghani fighters on frontlines to die.
Role of Iran revolution Guard has always been limited to fanaticizing of loyal folks from mentioned states.

you're an expert of Iran , for sure :partay:

Its common sense... Iran revolution guard is involved in all regional states.
if they them self take charge of front lines, than all conflicts would end within month and so would be Iran revolution guards.
Don't tell me local public would ever come for rescue of minority Iran Revolution Guards.
Occupation of IRG in region has already loosen their grip on local society. Is this not a clear sign?

Irans borders begins in Syria. We know their plans after Syria we are on their hit list next so it is natural we shift our borders thousands of KM's further to prevent harm to the main homeland :)

War will continue for a long time, brace yourself jihadis :)

it is not that simple .
you cannot compare Syria and Iraq. you cannot compare Hamedani retard and dangerous guy to lambda guy.
Iranian are not there to make the war that are the matter of other countries: either Assad dictator who wants to stay, or Iraqi government trying to end with the salafi terrorism.
Iranian people are not kind of people who like to go foreign countries to fight. our culture is more defend our country.

i understand it is convenient to think and say about "iranian occupation"
that something so highly unhonest but it is convenient for haters
you can blame IRGC for supporting Assad or us we can blame them supporting the bad guys in Iran or avoiding democracy, but occupying stuff or manipulation of other countries ... that's quite bullshit

discussions are often so unhonest. people fantasm Iran, Iranians or IRGC.
we Iranians cannot spend our life explain things to people who don't want to hear/read.

And that didn't change, show me a single vid of several Iranian troops in Syria. They are advisors who are on the frontlines most of the time.

They are dying like flies. I lost count. Iranian offensive tactics did not change since Iran-Iraq war.

As long as wahhabis and their supporters exist you Zions have nothing to worry because they'll do your job .

Over 1 billion Sunnis from Malasya to Algeria are scared to death and wet their pants against Israel but have big mouths for Shias and other minorities .

What a shame .
