Better governance makes South India surge ahead of the North

why is NE states not developed? is it because they feel that long term China will lay claim for it ? or they dont look similar to main stream Indians??

will kick those @$$ who claim them newly.... so you are thinking... china is free to claim any thing any time... why don't you guys claim Hawaii...

CUT THE CRAP AND THINK INDIA AS ONE.....SUCH POSTS AREN'T GOING TO HELP ANYONE.

Brushing issues under the carpet won't help anybody. The point of the post is not to make fun of one part or another, or to create any divisions. It is to analyze which states are doing better, what are the reasons for that, which states are not doing well, what the reasons are. Only by observing the performance and learning, will we be able to improve.

The corporate board of McDonald's will look at which units are making profits and which ones are making losses, and enquire the reasons, so that they can emulate the success stories of the ones that are doing well, and to avoid the mistakes made by the loss making ones.

Such analyses are important in every field.

the region faced decades long insurgency/terrorism but in recent years almost all of these organizations have surrendered \ been defeated or has given up violence to archive their goals and thus the development has just recently started there and I am damn sure in next 20-25 years it will become the most prosperous region in the country

Calm down my friend, as an outsider I am just asking the reason, I am not saying anything which should excite you

No industrialization. Small population. Difficult to access.

Let's not forget that Western U.P is economically at par with Punjab and Haryana. It's the Eastern part which is the problem.

Remove NCR. Delhi has a big role in development of West UP.

NE is underdeveloped so are many eastern states. Mostly its western and southern states which are engines of growth. North is waking up but east is still the same.
Reasons for backwardness in NE (as well as east) is terrain(many are hilly and forest areas, so have poor infrastructure), lack of investment by govt, poor local administration and most importantly lack of enterprenural class.

NCR is not a part of Western U.P :what:

Anyway Western U.P is too populated for its per capita income to get skewed only because of Noida. They are doing better than Eastern U.P . It's a fact.

In fact Western U.P is a lot like Haryana and Eastern U.P is a lot like Bihar even culturally and linguistically , not just economically.

North is waking up ? Northern states as mentioned before have same or higher per capita income than many South and Western Indian states.Where are you getting this from ? Don't tell me it's your sixth sense again.

Socially ? Yes we are behind.

NE didn't develop because of insurgencies in the past and internal ethnic violence. Mountainous terrain is also an issue. Now most of the NE states are developing very rapidly though

Per capita income of most northern states are below national average.
They are
Bihar
UP
Jharkhand
MP
Chattisgarh
Rajasthan

+ J&K

I did not check it before stating, but seems my 6th sense still works. :P

Noida civic infrastructure high on state government agenda

Mishra added.

Noida is the highest revenue generator for the state and contributing around 25% to the state GDP last year.

Most of the growth in western UP is because of NCR, which is driven by Delhi.

I think it is a cycle, insurgencies also happen when the population is not literate and is poor...I think indian govt should have developed this area first then the rest since this can effect the whole of your eastern area like you are talking about, I thiink this area does not have good political representation in your parliament so nobody actually voiced concern about it and so the insurgencies..with China whatever is the political climate but when govt takes decision to do something then there is no looking back..they planned on making Shanghai a world city and in 1 decade it bacame on of the prominent cities in the pacific region

^fair point, lack of infrastructure causes tremendous knock-on effects.
india has much to learn from the chinese model.

Bihar,Eastern U.P(poor part of U.P) , Jharkhand , Chattisgarh - Eastern India

M.P- Central india

Only Rajasthan and J&K are Northern states that you mentioned there. Anyway let's keep J & K out of this. Theirs is completely different situation.

Most of the growth in western UP is because of NCR, which is driven by Delhi.

Then why not look at Maharashtra's GDP without Mumbai ? or for that matter without Mumbai and Pune both ? Where will Maharasthra stand then ? or Karnataka without Bangalore ?

You can say that about all states without their main cities.

Well the NE has a lot of natural resources that have been exploited .... Assam produces 1/4 of World tea and was the first state to have crude oil. The only thing is utter negligence of the central government and this has led to insurgency. Leave human, when animals are not treated fairly they protest...check this video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lKhAd0Tyny0

Now from the videos you may now know..that while some states were given grapes, NE got cucumber...that has lead to angry protest by youth who felt neglected.

Punjab has also been effected by insurgency but it didn't stopped the progress there..all that is needed is a political will. The NE states have a higher literacy rate than most North Indian states,http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indian_states_ranking_by_literacy_rate
less female infanticide, the least deaths due to dowry (as it is not a part of the culture) and no honor killings.Another important thing is the number of representatives (Lok Sabha) of the whole of NE including Sikkim is 25 MP's (correct me if I am wrong)....which is 3/state. These number of ministers are not game changers...in comparison to states which have more than 40+ MP's...they can topple government, and their demands are heard.

For a better and prosperous India...besides better state governance an impartial Central government is required.

BTW..MaunMohan Singh is a Rajya Sabha MP from Assam...would like to see for the last 10 years as PM what has he done for the people of his state.
