Sangsad Bhaban, Sept 4 (UNB) – Harshly criticising former Planning Minister AK Khandker for his book, ‘1971: Bhetare Baire’, MPs across the board on Thursday demanded that a case be filed against him on sedition charge for ‘distorting history and undermining Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’ in the just-published book.

Standing on point of order, both the treasury bench and opposition MPs also demanded a ban on the book, published by ‘Prothoma Publishers’.

Abul Kalam Azad, MP initiated the debate while senior MPs Amir Hossain Amu, Tofail Ahmed, Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim, Rafiqul Islam, Kazi Firoz Rashid and Jasad MP Mainuddin Khan Badal took part in it.

Coming down hard on AK Khandker, who was the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Bangladesh Armed Forces during the War of Liberation in 1971, Sheikh Selim said Khandker wrote the book at somebody’s instigation after taking money from any intelligence agency.

“What he did is tantamount to sedition. He should be tried on sedition charge,” he told the House.

Demanding an immediate ban on the book, the senior ruling party MP said, “I don’t know whether he did it taking money from ISI, but he did it taking money from any agency.”

He claimed that AK Khandker did not take part in the Liberation War deliberately; rather he joined it on the suggestion of Pakistanis.

Selim said Khandker proved his loyalty to Khandaker Mushtaque Ahmed by not protesting the killing of
Bangabandhu in 1975. He was also the beneficiary of HM Ershad government as he was the foreign minister at that time.

Tofail Ahmed harshly criticised AK Khandker for writing in his book that Bangabandhu uttered ‘Joi Bangla, Joi Pakistan’ at the end of his historical March 7 speech.

“I was there beside Bangabandhu on the podium (of the rally). The last words of Bangabandhu were Joi Bangla. Where from he (AK Khandker) heard Joi Pakistan?” Tofail questioned.

The Commerce Minister said AK Khandker has no sense of gratitude, saying: “Sheikh Hasina made him minister, but how could he do it? By writing these, he has handed arms to others.”

Tofail also said AK Khandker did not join the Liberation War at its start but in late April.

He protested Khandker’s remark made in his book that Bangabandhu had no preparation for the war and that he had received good behaviour from Pakistani people during his 18-year stay in Pakistan from 1951 to 1969.

Another senior treasury bench MP, Amir Hossain Amu, said those who want to malign Bangabandhu, also want to malign the national entity.

Pointing at AK Khandker, Badal said, “Don’t violate the Constitution. The person who crosses the limit, the people of Bangladesh would never forgive him.”

Jatiya Party MP Kazi Firoz Rashid demanded that the Speaker allocate a full day for debate on the issue.

Deputy Speaker Fazle Rabbi Mia who was presiding over the sitting said Khandker partially distorted history. “He (Khandker) knows it better why he did it.”

Didn't know A. K. Khandaker wrote a book. Thanks to Awami extremists condemning Khandaker in parliament many people would be persuaded to learn BD history beyond textbooks. A K Khandaker actually belonged to the Salafists of Awami religion. But alas! That was not enough!

A.K Khandakar wrote the truth on the 7 March speech. Sk. Mujib indeed said also Joy Pakistan at the very end of his speech after shouting Joy Bangla.

AK Khandakar only wrote the truth. I wonder from where he gathered courage??

So what if SM said Joy Pakistan or not. There shouldn't be any fuss on this.

AK khandker is as awamileague as u can get but deciding to say the truth may make him a razakar now. AL's very foundation is based on lies and fabrication of history so its natural that they r truth-phobic.

Sheikh Mujib and Jamaat as political party took same political stand for undivided Pakistan, although they wanted greater role for east Pakistan. 40 years down the road considering ongoing indo Awami genocide and occupation of Bangladesh, politically that was correct stand but Sheikh Mujib was made a FAKE and IMPOSED hero while Jamaat was termed as enemy just so india and Awami League divide and conquer tactics can survive. That is eastwatch and his indo Awami ideology is all about.

Then why dont you respect him.

Sheikh Mujib as any Awami Leaguer was double face killer he also was anti Bangladesh but an indian puppet. Looks like you like any Awami indo awami cheer leaders are getting restless seeing truth about Bangladesh occupation business coming out from inside.

Now how one man can be a pro pakistani and indian puppet same time?
You simply dont make any sense. Sometimes you will say you dont believe in creation of BD. Its ok you are pro pakistani.
No problems.
But again you start bargaining who should stay in power in BD. Who fought for liberation war. Who is the announcer of war.
So why you care about BD, if you have problems with creation of BD.

You can start discussing how can occupy BD again to join with pakistan. Simple :enjoy:

That is how Awami League played double face snake, true to indian teaching. India wanted to create division in Pakistan and Sheikh Mujib was indian tool. But when indians was ready to push for separation of Pakistan Sheikh Mujib was not so sure but he never left his original loyalty to india. Read history and learn, perhaps new Ak Khondakar book.
