What's new

PAF should've invested more on J-10s rather than JF-17s

On topic : JF-17 Thunders is meant to replace F-7s , Miraages etc..it is not meant to replace F-16s , right? So JF-17 is a wonderful aircraft. It provides way superior capabilities as compared to F-7s/Miraages and it cost less. J-10B and F-16 block 52+ are the aircrafts that will form the 'higher end' of PAF.

Secondly , JF-17 is an indigenous project of Pakistan Air Force with the help of China. Pakistanis helped design JF-17 according their needs. Can you say the same for J-10Bs? Would Chinese have gone for "joint-production" of J-10Bs?

So PAF planners made the right decision I would say. JF-17 has a payload of ~ 4000 kg and can carry array of weapons like SD-10B , CM 400AKG , nuclear-capable Ra'ad , all kinds of bombs etc..What else you can demand for?

If deterioration of friendship with a key ally is any indicator, do you have any backup plans if relations with china head south in future?????
It depends on the ally you are talking about....Pak-US relations have decades old history, If they have deteriorated to lowest level then its means one of them have seen enough of this "friendship". Now you should be thinking that this 'one country' is US? aren't you?

Regarding China, one need to see their definition of 'threat perception', their emerging military power (especially with Stealth fighters and Aircraft carrier) and her interests in emerging situation of the region.

Who will design a new jet engine? Pakistanis? lol .... Do you know how hard it is to design a jet engine?

Ask Chinese.

What is the point of having universities research departments? If they can't design or even reverse engineer one! There must be an aviation engineer in Pakistan who could built one principles of design is available on YouTube.

Its not so much as the principle of design of an engine but the metallurgy involved in making one; the Chinese have many more Universities than us & many more competent people & yet they only just came up with an engine !

What stops pakistan from reverse engineering rd33?

JF17 has solved PAF problem of replacing 300 mirages/F7 which are obselete or wil be obselete over next 5 years.

GREAT

THE NEXT question is this by COMMITTING the next decade to license build further improve a single low cost MR fighter which lacks the payload, range, compsite technology and TWR of the bigger J10 & F16/52 have PAF become a totally defensive lightweight AIR POWER...

your resouces are so limited I DOUBT PAF could acquire more than a 2 sqds of the bigger far more expensive FC20/J10

IN MOST PEOPLES EYES ITS THIS FC20 /J10 that is better equipped to HANDLE THE massive fleet of SU30MKI (270+)

" I WILL LEAVE THE RAFALE threat out for now"

That is a money extensive exercise, plus trying to make a Pakistani engine makes no economic sense, we are not Sweden after all.

There has to be engineers, metallurgist somewhere in Pakistan or have they all moved to USA or UK and are working for Pratt and Whitney! Rolls Royce!

As for it makes no economic sense - JOBS! JOBS! for engineers and other allied industries or do we just do Sweet FA.

Engines in Pakistan will remain a pipedream. Its just a reality until the reality changes.

License produce ws series that replaces rd33 in FC1's from the start... It will payoff big in future....

Yes, it may well become a viable reality if and when the air craft attracts foreign orders.

Forget intl order for now.. think of PAF... 250 JF 17's and if PAF chooses j31.. say 100 of em 200 more engines for that... Its a solid option...+ spares

Doing that to a Jet engine is not that simple.. Ask the Chinese.. Its a global economy.. every one no longer needs to be able to do everything. System integration is the name of the game.. Component development is best left to those who do it the best.. Namely Americans and Russians..

Not necesarry, Geo strategic equation is a funny game. Dependency is never fruitful, no matter how close your ally is. Case and point dassault/argentina, US/Pak etc.

say if we had a top notch kaveri, wouldn't we be in a better state...

There are two things to learn from pakistan and china in this context... Co-production, which we never did with russia, or UK and buying complete design rights like china did vis-a-vis SU27. No matter what opinion you hold of JF17's PAF can produce as many as they like when they have complete lines. If India makes 273rd MKI we have to pay the russians.
