India: Half a dollar a day 'adequate', says panel

Why would they when they have their tummies full and their bellies hanging out, only someone who is starving can feel empathy for another hungry person.

steady on mate i have always spoken up for injustice. and have empathy with downtrodden but I have enough to eat

I would say our leaders dont have a heart betweeen them

But we are the ones who elect our leaders and make the same mistakes over and over what does that say about us?

but thats why i dont think democracy as defined by the west is a good thing. I was talking to my brother today about indirect taxation in the uk. Prior to the election the lab party advocated no increase in vat. liberals advocated no vat increase. Torys advocated vat increase. No one got a maijority. libs went in to coalition with cons and therefore it resulted in th reverse of what voting people intended ie vat was increased. But thats a chat for anotheer day. I might start a thrfead about democracy and my views one of these days.

Back to our topic I think we need examples made of corrupt political leaders. we need to make an example of them for formalising panels who believe that half a dollar is sufficient to survive

5000 RS per month in India being middle class is a joke right?

in China, 2500 RMB per month (20000 RS) is just enough to survive in a tier 2 city. Food alone is 800 RMB (6400 RS) per month.

Now, China produces 5x the agricultural output of India, yet still imports food.

India has roughly the same population, has 5x lower output, and exports food. Food therefore, should not be cheaper just by supply and demand.

How the hell can you survive?

I used to believe in the 'concept' of democracy but now i have given up all hope. Politicians lie to get into power and will backtrack as soon as they are in power there is one song which if you have time you guys should check out it sums up my view to how the system works:

Jimmy cliff - no justice - YouTube

I rather have a good King like Yudhisthira who had a heart of gold then these criminal baba's and networks.

Still 600 million Indian live without electricity . so it is not unlikely that in the remote part of dazzling India people are still living hand to mouth . they can not afford any dazzling posh item for them . their main goal is to live till death . Incredible India indeed :wave:

Still your people are ready to become slave of Indians and ready got killed on border

In vast stretches of the developing world, after the sun sets, everything goes dark. In sub-Saharan Africa, about 70 percent of the population lack electricity. However, no country has more citizens living without power than India, where more than 400 million people, the vast majority of them villagers, have no electricity. The place that remains most in darkness is Bihar, India’s poorest state, which has more than 80 million people, 85 percent of whom live in households with no grid connection. Because Bihar has nowhere near the capacity to meet its current power demands, even those few with connections receive electricity sporadically and often at odd hours, like between 3:00 a.m and 6:00 a.m., when it is of little use.

Wow you are must be in dream .

where that article state your stupid claim ??????:lol:

you prove your self

and article said that
It is also meant to ease a chronic power shortage that has left 400 million Indians without electricity, causes daily blackouts in cities, and represents one of the biggest obstacles to economic growth.

that mean this figure include both (without electricity and daily blackout in cities)

But that didn't stop thousands of Bangladeshis to risk even BSF bullets so as to come to India.

600 million?:what:

who responsible for poverty in India? Indian government or state governments?

No doubt there is a gap between India and China. Not GDP number, I mean by the stats you provided, there seems to be a bigger gap between the rich and poor in India and higher percentage of Indians might not have enough food.

Food in China is not cheap though, compared to the average income. I was a bit shocked whenI saw the price in grocery stores. It was not much cheaper than in Canada. However, labor cost or service is still much cheaper, sometimes to a ridiculous extent I can't believe.

Actually I noticed similar things in Romania and Colombia as well, probably worse. Seems like that they're paying higher percentage of income for food than in China. Another thing I noticed is that middle class Chinese family in tier 2 cities, like ChongQing and Chengdu, almost all have LCD TV, car (some are imported brand like Toyoto or Volkswagen, some are cheaper domestic brand) and nice apartment. While in Romania, the don't seem to have more disposable income to spend. Quite a few people complained about joining Euro zone made their life more expensive than before.

The most important thing for the governments should be always raise the life quality of their people, lift the poor out of poverty, provide better education etc. GDP isn't everything, China, India, Pakistan all have long way to go. Stop fight or fight less, and make better life.
