What is the Best fighter jet for Sri Lanka Air force?

wrong FC-1 is a perfect replacement for F-7s plus additional units they would prefer China they are well satisfied with F-7s so far.

Right now Sri Lanka uses 9 F7s which are still new(2008) and don't need replacement.
Other aircraft include 1 Mig 23 and 7 Mig 27. That makes it just 8 aircraft. They would look for a multirole or a ground attack aircraft. Mig 29 was on their mind. Lets see what happens.

For just 8 aircraft they can afford any aircraft they want.

jagjitnatt....since war is over...in next 5/6 years sri lanka will be able to upgrade update and procure new Jets not mere 8 again war is over those fund can be diverted..Yes F-7s are not old enough with sri lanka as i stated in my previous posts but in next 5/6 years who knows..most likely kfirs will be replaced..

Sri Lanka expected to get HQ-9B Air Defense System (known as the FT-2000 for export) from China.

Sri Lanka may have:

12 – Su-35BM jets
24 – JF-17 jets
HQ-9B Air Defense System

Su-35BM + JF-17 + HQ-9B will keep Sri Lanka Air Space Safer.

Sri Lanka Economy Capable to Finance Any Kind of Defense Deals, If Necessary Big Brother China Always There to Help

su-35BM! thats real beauty. . . but russians only sell downgraded versions .j10 is good choice

The best option will be mig 35 or F16 blk 60.

Jf17 is NOT a superiority fighter, though has an excellent price.

So 2 squadrons of Mig 35 and 2/3 of jf17 as interceptors.

Since they already have migs new mig wont have maintanence issues.

F18 is again NOT an air superority fighter and has better a2g capability.

Su 30 varients have high operational cost and a new infra is needed.

F16 suits the best, its proven, jas good price, no issue of spares.

xinix Italian market is open FC-1 with Italian Selex Galileo Vixen 1000SE is not difficult for Sri lanka to acquire for future...
you must be joking about F-18 not being an air superiority fighter
about $1.2 billion worth 2 types of fighters for sri lanka is not difficult in next 5 years..
No american option is highly unlikely..

J-10B/JF-17 mix would be advisable for numerous reasons.

1. SL and Pakistan have good defence ties. Commonality of equipment will help in everything from exercises, maintenance, development of strategy and tactics for the platform and so on.

2. Ditto the above with China also. SL and China are getting closer and you would have absolutely no issues at all wrt supplies/replacement parts etc. with these platforms.

3. There is no conceivable scenario in which Pakistan or China will arm-twist SL. We are geographically distant and have no ethnically motivated issues at all. The same cannot be said about the India/SL relationship. Given that Sukhoi is a major supplier to India, why would you want to opt for a platform that can be at risk if India and SL end up getting sideways.

4. A huge twin-engined aircraft with a big RCS and a greater maintenance burden might not be a good choice as an air defence asset focussed on protecting SL airspace. You have no aggressive designs that would require you to plan for deep-strikes.

5. Going all-China will make a strong statement about your growing alliance with the world's newest superpower. Russia is the past. China is the future. Growing your economic, industrial and military cooperation with China by spending your money with them would be wise.

Best wishes to SL and their air force.

Sri Lanka is aircraft carrier size country so f-18 hornet is best

Lanka's defence is best served by choosing a side and being involved in mutual defence by treaty obligations. OR it can declare it's neutrality and see that neutrality torn to pieces by it's neigbors and international powers acting through regional powers - neutrality is a very difficult option for Lanka.

Whatever aircraft it might pick, when it comes to external powers, they will have have greater resources and numbers of aircraft - so any aircaft that will give it a more favorable air to ground role would be best.

JF-17 for sure. Why go for very advance jet? Better analyse the requirement thn go for the craft
